Frequently Asked Questions

How to begin:

The best way to begin is with an initial phone call. This gives you an opportunity to share more about what you are seeking, to ask any questions you might have about me/my practice and for us to assess if I might be the right fit. From there, we schedule an initial session. I consider the first three to four sessions an ‘assessment phase’ where we are getting to know one another, defining your needs and goals and generally creating a plan for our future work together.

What to expect from first session and beyond:

Sessions are held either in-person at my office, virtually via secure video conferencing, or in some kind of hybrid combination. When meeting virtually, it is important that you meet from a space that is private, confidential and as comfortable as possible. In the first few sessions I tend to gather a bit more information and history. As we get to know one another, a more natural co-created rhythm and flow will emerge. Sometimes we may simply talk; about past experiences, present concerns, recent events, dreams or future goals. We may do some guided mindfulness including meditation, breathing or visualization. Some sessions, I might encourage some movement or invite you into an activity like art or writing. My somatic approach translates to encouraging you to connect with your body sensations and felt experience (as you talk about this, what do you notice in your body? What emotion might you be feeling?) I take my cues from you. While we may explore their edges, your safety and comfort are paramount. Anything we do is via invitation and in the spirit of curiosity and collaboration. Creativity and flexibility are key. Therapy is a process we define and design together, leaving room for our relationship to change and evolve.

Frequency/Duration:

Therapy sessions generally last fifty minutes and take place at least weekly on an agreed upon day/time (other arrangements in terms of schedule/duration/frequency are available as clinically appropriate)
